Jay Ashman – Elite Athlete Development Co-Founder, former Superleague Rugby Player, ex-Strongman
Jay grew up playing a variety of sports such as baseball, football, basketball, tennis, soccer, swimming, and more. Later in his teenage years he focused more on football and baseball.
After college he had a professional football tryout in 1998, didn’t make a team and decided to set his competition sights on rugby. He played rugby for Reading Rugby, Long Island RFC, and Old Blue Superleague’s side before calling it quits in 2008.
Jay competed in strongman in the early to mid 2000’s never finishing lower than third in an amateur contest. His last contest in 2010 ended with a second place finish.
After his competitive career was over he went through an eye-opening heart scare. Once he got through that he transformed himself physically and mentally by dropping 30 pounds of unneeded weight and focusing on the synergy between hard training and health.
He is a former PT manager in NYC at Equinox and in Long Island at Big Al’s Fitness. He was also the former Director of Athletics at Gorilla Pit in Mentor, OH and the Head Strength Coach at BrewHouse Barbell in OKC. Currently he works at City Gym in KC where he trains athletes and people who wish to be their physical best. He is a certified Strength and Conditioning Coach through ISSA and also a certified Precision Nutrition Coach.
He has worked with players from the Long Island Ducks, pitchers from St. Anthony’s (LI), football players from the state champion Kirtland HS (OH) team, and wrestlers from Mentor, Kirtland, and Painesville. He has worked with professional athletes from women’s pro football to baseball minor league players. He consults with rugby players nationwide for men’s teams on their training plans, has coached youth and men’s rugby in both OH and OK, and was a speaker at the 2nd annual Strength and Conditioning Conference at Denison University along with a featured speaker at the Putting it all together seminar with Dan John.
He is based out of Kansas City, MO and works with City Gym in both the Waldo area and in their downtown location for all in-person client inquires.
